I usually describe the difference between RefWorks and Endnote as somewhat subjective and kind of like comparing a Saab Turbo and a Toyota Corolla automobile (endnote can be very thrilling and turbo, but tuning the engine is a responsibility. On the other hand, my neighbor has had a very old corolla for about three years without ever tuning it or even cleaning it, but it works as basic transportation without any tuning…all the corrections RefWorks needs are implemented universally as a web product, while endnote must be updated by the owner).
I usually make a point in my RefWorks classes to say that you can "harvest" citations and distribute them very well with RefShare, but that you can also download them into endnote if you value working offline for long periods. Young students hardly ever spend any time off-line, so RefWorks should be a better product for them. But researchers like endnote and are not tempted to switch (or they could load citations into RefWorks, just to share them).
